After a night of too much partying, the Far Seas Company has failed to show up on time for the Gorowyn City Festival. We'll keep you updated once we hear word on when the festival will arrive!
The Gorowyn City Festival Has Begun! [EverQuest II]  from ZAM News (full) 
The Far Seas Caravan traveled the waters of Norrath, got turned around while partying for New Years, and finally arrived early this afternoon in Timorous Deep to begin the Gorowyn City Festival ! The festival will run until January 9th at 10am PST. The Far Seas Caravan can be found inside the Timorous Maw while the quest giver, Kella Swampfoot, will be on the docks of Faydedar Watch. Visit the Far Seas caravan merchants to see all of the local specialities and other festival goods . An Aether Race will also be available in Timorous Deep during the festival. Participate and achieve a time of 244 seconds or less to earn the Wind Warden prefix title! Begin the race by speaking to the referee on the docks. Wow! When the Gigglegibbers throw a New Year's party, they really do it! Well, we've cleaned everything up, and now have the Gorowyn City Festival running on all servers. It'll be active on all servers until 1/9 at 10 AM PST. ~Kaitheel

The contested city of Maj'Dul gave faction meaning and djinn, orcs, and undead vied for our attention while we herded beetles. The level cap was raised to 60. Servers will come down on Thursday, January 3, 2013 for a hotfix. The expected downtime for all servers is one hour. Regional downtimes are as follows: US: 7am Pacific JP: 1pm Pacific EU: 9pm Pacific The full patch notes are available after the jump. QUESTS Sleeper's Tomb [Contested] Now has dropped and POI quests that can be used to earn Obol, spirits and more! Alma Marigold will now offer Kelethin: Dreadooze on more than one occasion. US Servers will come down on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at 7:00 am Pacific for an update. The estimated downtime is one hour. The EU servers will come down on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 5:00 am London Time. The expected downtime is two hours. The full patch notes are available after the jump. GENERAL You can now invite another player to create a raid even if they have a mercenary but you do not. You can now fill remaining spaces in your bags from your overflow via /empty_overflow or from right-clicking on the overflowing inventory icon. AMENITIES The standard bearer should now offer guild markers for use in marking strategic locations within instances. Only those marked as a raid looter can remove these markers. TRADESKILLS The Refine ability icon should now refresh instantly, as the recast time suggests. Refining metals will no longer have a chance to return a refined loam. The EU servers will come down on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 5:00 am London. The expected downtime is two hours. Here are the patch notes: ITEMS Ammo Conservation adornments have been removed from red and yellow dropped adornment tables. QUESTS Quest items Listenomitron and Voice Modulator now work as quest baubles during their associated quests in the betrayal quests.

EverQuest II started the year fresh off of its eighth expansion, plus a Free-to-Play conversion, and ended it with its ninth expansion, Chains of Eternity. Players began their year adjusting to the Free-to-Play model, first introduced as EQ2 Extended, which was introduced as the new subscription model December 2011. EverQuest II was the first of Sony Online Entertainment's games to introduce a Free-to-Play option since Free Realms , and most of SOE's other games quickly followed. Populations flourished as new and old players alike visited Norrath to give the seven year old game a spin. Age of Discovery and Game Update 62 both launched in December 2011; the content and features of these updates added replayability that extended into the new year. The US and EU Servers will come down on Thursday, December 13, 2012, at 7:00 am Pacific for a hotfix. The expected downtime is up to two hours. Frostfell is planned to start after the hotfix and Beastlords may find a new quest available to them. Patch notes are after the jump. GENERAL Mounts will no longer show the locked icon on them when you can use them. POPULATION / ZONE PROGRESSION Harrow’s End Bastion’s pillars should regenerate energy nearly equally as fast as they get drained. The draining should also be slightly lessened. Drinal should no longer be casting his curse repetitively while the curse is already active on a raid member. Drinal’s Power Over Death curse should once again be at the appropriate duration. Oligar should resummon his protective golems regardless of the order they are killed if he feels he is not adequately protected. It's that time of year again: Santa Glug is coming to town!  Frostfell returns to Norrath on the 13th with new craftables , a new quest featuring goodies running amok , and new token rewards including wings that are a flying mount!  Be sure to stop by and see Santa Glug in Frostfell Wonderland Village, as he has seven new presents this year. Frostfell is planned to start after the morning hotfix .
