I tried to think of a witty way to bring this news to the masses, but after an hour of pondering terrible opening lines (EverQuest II now Free-To-Quest… 2!), I think I've finally settled on just telling you straight: EverQuest II is going free-to-play. There. I said it. Regardless if you're playing EQ2 or not, when one of the industry's most well-known MMORPGs declares that going free-to-play means"only good things for everyone involved,"this certainly qualifies as very big news for all. I got the chance to sit down at a roundtable interview hosted yesterday by SOE's very excitable Dave Georgeson to discuss EverQuest II's new free-to-play shift, which is set to be released in early December , alongside the launch of the Age of Discovery expansion pack. In the excitemenmt of yesterday's free-to-play announcement SOE also opened pre-orders for the Age of Discovery expansion, slated to launch in late November or early December. Click the cloak on the right to see the gallery of pre-order items revealed at yesterday's webcast! The Commonlands became a flurry of activity this month as the Far Seas caravans rolled in, offering their wares for the Freeport City Festival . The Flying Freebooters have joined the festivities and the Aether Racing course is once again available this month. The Aether Race and City Festival run concurrently and both end at 11:59pm PST on November 7th. Nights of the Dead will soon come to a close for the year. A new quest, Survive the Night , challenges players in a flora versus undead battle. New decorations, goodies and a crafting scroll are available from the Nights of the Dead merchants. The event is slated to turn off at 11:59pm PST on Monday, November 7th. EverQuest II turns seven years old this month and, in celebration of this event, both Freeport and Qeynos will once again host the Heroes'Festival . The City Festival Starts Tonight! [EverQuest II]

Tomorrow is the beginning of November, bringing us the Freeport City Festival ! The festival is planned to start on November 1st at 12:01am PDT and run until November 7th at 11:59pm PST. You can find the Far Seas Caravan in the Commonlands between the Crossroads and the Freeport Griffon Tower. No new items are available this month. Visit the Far Seas caravan merchants to see all of the local specialities and other festival goods. An Aether Race will also be available in Commonlands during the festival. Participate and achieve a time of 119 seconds or less to earn the Portal Jumper prefix title! Begin the race by speaking to the referee near the docks.

The US Servers will come down on October 25, 2011, at 7:00 am PDT for a hotfix. The expected downtime is 1 hour. EU servers will have their hotfix at 5am BST on Wednesday, October 26, 2011.
